Specialty Boutiques Fill a Niche
Not to long ago shoppers were limited by what was carried in their local department store, and many towns only had one or two to choose from. It’s difficult to imagine how shopaholics and others dedicated to the art of shopping managed to survive with such limited choices. Today, department stores have spawned countless boutiques and specialty shops that limit the scope of their products while offering a much wider variety within that niche .
It is the niche that defines the success of a specialty store. From arts and crafts supplies to eco-friendly products at baby earth , there seems to be a store for anything. The advent of the internet means that even more niche stores can succeed. Now stores don’t have to depend on attracting enough niche customers in a small geographic area to survive. They can call on everyone within a given niche who lives within shipping distance — which usually means the entire country and sometimes includes the rest of the world.
Specialty boutiques are also a boon for shoppers — and not just the shopaholics. Having access to a wider variety of sizes, styles, and colors of anything allows people to express their individuality to a much greater degree. “Hard to find” becomes almost meaningless as people are able to find things they used to only dream existed.
