Thailand’s White Beaches

Phuket is Thailand‘s largest island is located off the west cost in the Andaman Sea. This island of approximately five hundred seventy square meters is about the size of Singapore and is connected to Thai main land by a bridge in the north. Phuket formerly gained its wealth from tin and rubber and was a major trading route between India and China. Today the white sandy beaches surrounding the island draw many tourists to many of the beach resort Thailand. Long beautiful palm lined beaches await the visitors to this island. To the north of Thailand are the countries of Laos and Burma, to the east is Cambodia, the south the Gulf of Thailand and to the south east there Indonesia and across the sea India. Thailand is the worlds 50th largest country. Being predominately Buddhist Thailand has had a relatively peaceful history. Buddhist temples are an important part of Thai culture and the Thai landscape to this day. Many celebrations dot the Thai calendar mid April is Thai New Year, August 12th is the celebration of the Queen’s birthday, December 9th the King’s birthday. In October is Lacaton the lotus blossom festival where butter lamps are lit and allowed to assend into the sky. Theravada is the Buddhist tradition mainly practiced in Thailand. Thailand is currently ruled by King Bhumibol Adulyadej his reigned began in 1946. Today he is the worlds longest serving head of state and longest serving monarch in Thai history. The king is highly revered by the Thai people and frequently referred to simply as The Great. Today Thailand continues to grow economically with much newly developed industries in the country. Tourism continues to grow with the attractive pricing of hotels, food and other accommodations.
